Luke Sanders-Self had the honor and privilege in 2007 of spending time at the TCV and of meeting and talking with His Holiness, an experience documented in the film Project Happiness Luke felt the stories of the TCV refugees needed to be told. He attended the University of California, Santa Cruz and graduated in June 2011 with a Highest Honors degree in Film and Digital Media. Several of his student films were honored with nominations to the Santa Cruz Film Festival and he received a best-in-division award for his original screenplay The Fortunate One. After graduation, he worked a variety of production jobs, contacted the Dalia Lama Foundation and put together enough funding to support and return to the TCV to make the film Educated in Exile.
